Battery Gauge Accuracy
The battery gauge on your PDA will not accurately represent
a full charge on the Charge-N-Run(tm) battery pack unless the
battery kind/type is updated correctly. This is because most
PDAs ship with the PalmOS battery gauge setting set for alkaline type batteries
and the Charge-N-Run battery pack uses NiMH battery technology.
To select the best setting for your new rechargeable battery
pack, see the Battery Panel application below. It is HIGHLY
recommended and uniquely tuned for the Charge-N-Run battery pack.
Battery Panel by Remo Hofer (updated by Pellico Systems, v0.03 )
This is a system Preference Panel ( Prefs ) application for
changing your battery Kind ( Alkaline, NiCad,
NiMH, etc ). It provides default settings for your new Charge-N-Run battery
pack. Please follow these instructions for installation and configuration:
-
Download the batterypanel.prc
application and install it onto your Palm device as you would any other
application. Note: The source code for this updated version is available
in this
repackaged ZIP file. ( Hold the Shift Key
down while clicking on the link to download )
-
Once the Battery Panel application
is installed on your PDA, run the Prefs application
and select the Battery item from the list in the
upper right corner.
- Select the "Set CNR83001 Defaults" item from
the Battery Panels Option menu. To activate the Option menu, tap the [Menu] button located at the the lower left of the Graffiti area.
- Notice the Kind, Warning
, and Critical values have changed. Older versions of the PalmOS did
not have the NiMH battery type and so NiCad will show up instead.
Note: Currently, 2.32V and 2.20V are defaults
values for Warning and Critical fields. The displayed
value might have changed slightly to a rounded off value
and this is ok as long as the value doesn't change more then
+/- 0.05 V.

Changing the battery Kind using a Graffiti(tm) Shortcut
( Not recommended because Warning an Critcal
values remain unchanged. )
There is a Graffiti shortcut called "dot 7" which can toggle through
the list of available battery kinds for your Palm OS(tm)-based PDA.
Enter the command as follows:
- Create a new memo.
- Enter the Graffiti shortcut character ( a cursive lowercase
"L" ) followed by two taps ( the two taps generate a period
or dot ) followed by the number 7.
- The memo should show the new/current battery gauge setting.
- Keep entering the "dot 7" Graffiti shortcut until the
NiMH setting appears at the end of the memo. Note:
Some devices don't have a setting for NiMH and NiCad should
be used in these cases. If you mistakenly enter a Graffiti
shortcut other than "dot 7", you should reset your PDA and
try again to be sure it is operating as you expect. See your
owners manual on how to perform a reset and protect your
data
